Mountain Burger Steaks

I am a professional mountaineer. However, I am also a city boy at heart, and I don’t think I can survive for long in the wilderness without the modern luxuries of urban civilization. Of course, you can’t expect me to haul my TV or stereo, my favorite couch, or even my laptop to a place thousands of meters high above sea level.

But one thing I can bring is the set of ingredients of great-tasting food. Unlike other mountaineers who just settle for canned goods, I go for good old’ home-cooked (mountain-cooked, in this case) meals. Thus, the meals I prepare up there are gourmet (relatively, of course, considering the nature of mountaineering) dishes, and my fellow campers often have to beg to take a bite.

One of the original recipes that I discovered and made for my mountaineering meals is Mountain Burger Steak. It is quite simple to prepare, and the ingredients are light to carry and readily available in the supermarket. This dish makes a great lunch and dinner while you are up there high above the clouds.

Ingredients:

2 teaspoons vegetable oil
1 clove garlic, crushed
1 medium onion, minced
8 burger patties
1 pack of ready-to-mix gravy
1 or 2 cups of water
Salt and pepper to taste

Procedure:

1. Heat the oil in a pan. Sautee the garlic and onion until the garlic is slightly brown and the onion is translucent.

2. Add the burger patties. Fry the patties until nicely done. Set aside.

3. In a saucepan, heat a cup or two of water until the liquid simmers. Add the gravy powder and mix until thick and smooth. Check on the gravy’s packaging level for the correct amount of water.

4. Pour the gravy over the patties. Add salt and pepper to taste. Serve hot.

See? It’s simple, I told you.
