Layered Coffee Amaretto

I am not a coffee drinker.

Nah! I’m just kidding. I do drink coffee but not too much because it interferes with my sleep pattern. However, when I am presented with coffee amaretto, my hesitation to drink becomes compulsion, and compulsion becomes greed.

Coffee amaretto is “layered” coffee that is great for a lazy afternoon. It goes well with custard, cookies, cakes, and other sweet deserts. When preparing coffee amaretto, it is best if you use transparent cups or glasses so you can see the layers of liquids in it. The drink tastes so wickedly delicious that it’s addicting.

This is not my original recipe. This came from my fellow blogger Connie Veneracion of www.homecookingrocks.com

Ingredients (good for 1 cup):

•    Freshly brewed coffee
•    1 tablespoon chocolate syrup
•    1 tablespoon Kahlua
•    1 tablespoon Bailey’s Irish Cream
•    1 tablespoon Amaretto liquer
•    Whipped cream
•    Shaved chocolate

Fill the cups with freshly brewed coffee until it is about 2/3 full. Add 1 tablespoon of chocolate syrup. Since chocolate syrup is denser than coffee, the heavier liquid will sink into the bottom.

Add the Kahlua, Bailey’s cream, and Amaretto liqueur. At this stage, you can choose which liqueur goes first. Personally, I start out with the Bailey’s, then the Amaretto, and finally, the Kahlua.

Top the coffee with whipped cream, filling the cups completely. Sprinkle shaved chocolate before serving.
